In my area, there’s a cosplayer who goes by Misa on Wheels.
With congoing often bringing about horror stories of rude perverts, elitists, and drama, this girl is a breath of fresh air.
Every time I see her, she’s smiling. It doesn’t matter if she’s sitting alone, waiting for her friend, or browsing the halls of the convention, or up onstage strutting her stuff, this girl is always smiling. She’s not just smiling for her costume, either — you can tell she’s always just so happy.
When I’ve talked to her, she asks me how I am, I can tell she’s interested in what I have to say. She’s not just being polite - she wants to know how I’ve been. She’s so engaged in every little conversation, smiling and nodding and laughing. She’s an extremely well-known, popular cosplayer, but she treats everyone the same. She never passes judgement on anybody (probably because that’s Kira’s job /shot) and talks to everyone as though she’s overjoyed to see them. The good cosplayers, the bad ones, the smelly, the obese, the too-thin, the sketchballs… She treats everyone with so much kindness and respect. Just being around her makes you feel amazing. Every single time I’ve exchanged glances with her in the halls, she’s smiled at me like I was an old friend, even though she probably barely remembers me.
IMO, this girl stands for everything that’s right about cosplaying and congoing. She’s not only an amazing cosplayer, but an amazing person. She’s inspired me to really act the best I can and be as nice as I can to everyone at a convention, because she’s made me realize how wonderful it is to see a genuinely friendly, smiling face.
